This FAQ is for all you desperate people out there.

The info here is basically the same as in your readme file, but we all know you never read those (we're excused 'cause we kids can't read)! If however this info is still not helping, just drop us a line and comfort yourself with the knowledge that we even managed to explain the principals of icon management to our mediaeval mom and dinosaur dad.

HOW TO INSTALL

Always make sure you back-up your existing set of icons before installing a new icon set by copying your current icon "<iconname>.prc" file to a known location. In case of doubt check your application detail to find out what the name of your icon file is. (Agendus=Icons-IAMBIC.PRC, Datebk5=Icons-DATEBK5.PRC)

To be on the safe side locate the file in your user directory’s BACKUP folder (located in the Palm directory), EG: C:\Program Files\Palm\<Hotsync ID>\Backup

Install the new set of icons by doubleclicking the .prc file. Now hotsync your Palm.

I DON'T SEE ANY ICONS APPEAR ON MY PALM

icons will not show up in your application right away. You will need to copy the desired icons to the icon file that is already in use by your application (like Agendus or Datebk5). You can use an editor like IconManager to select different icon sets and create, copy and paste icons. It is a commercial application not sold by us, but the freeware version already offers a lot of functionality. Icon Manager comes with the icon sets we offer, but it is NOT developed by us but by Chris Antos of Handyshopper.

DON'T YOU HAVE SOME SIMPLE STEPS TO FOLLOW?

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Click on IconManager to open the program in your Palm. After hotsynching your icon sets you should now see all the icon sets currently on your Palm show up in IconManager. Our icon sets have names starting with TK-HR [name of the set].
  2. You need to know what the name is of the standard iconset that your application is looking for. F.E.: IAMBIC only recognizes icons from the icons-IAMBIC set. So we need to select icons from our icon sets and paste them into the set IAMBIC uses. In this example we will assume you are using Agendus by IAMBIC, but the steps remain the same if you are using any other application.
Please read below (Support) if you do not see all our TK icon sets in IconManager.
  3. Open one of the TK icon sets, F.E. 'TK-HR-sport' by selecting the name and tapping the 'ok' button.
  4. First click the menu button and select 'edit/empty clipboard'. This is done in case there are still some icons in the clipboard you might have put there on an earlier occasion.
  5. Check the 'select+' checkbox next to the 'save' and 'edit' buttons on the bottom of your screen. Select more than one icon you would like to use in IAMBIC.
    Go to 'menu:edit/copy icon(s)'
    Go to 'menu:record/select icon database'
Select the icon set named icons-IAMBIC
    Go to 'menu:edit/Paste icon(s)'
  6. The icons you copied earlier are now pasted into the current icon set.
Save the current icon set by clicking 'save' in the lower left corner of your screen.
NOTE: if you should select 'menu:edit/paste to New Icon DB', you will be prompted to type a new name and all the icons in the clipboard will be pasted into a new icon set with that name. We do not want to do this yet, but you might like to do so some other time (to keep all the icons you like handy, so you can delete the icon sets you don't need anymore. This will save space on your Palm device).
  7. You should now be able to leave IconManager, open IAMBIC and use the newly added color icons with your appointments and to do's.
  8. After you've done this once, maker sure to got to 'record-edit-help'. Select 'edit/Empty Clipboard'. Otherwise the icons you copy will stay in the clipboard, and each time you copy NEW icons they will be added to those. When you paste icons, ALL the icons from the clipboard will be pasted, so clearing the clipboard is essential.

I DON'T GET ALL THE SETS INSTALLED

We occasionally receive e-mails stating that not all the icon sets can be installed. If this is the case please first check your hotsynch log file (hotsynch/view log) to see if your Palm perhaps ran out of space. If this is NOT the case, what might cause your problems is if you saved your iconset, after unpacking the zip file, in a temporary directory.

If you for example unpacked the files in a directory named

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory

this means that Windows only keeps the data stored here available for a certain time. Usually the Temp directory is being emptied when you shut down/restart your computer or when the computer just needs more space to store other things in it.
On your desktop however you might still see the file names, but these names are in fact shortcuts to the actual documents in the Temp directory.
But they're not there anymore, hence the install error.
To solve this make sure you unpack the zip file you downloaded from Palmgear to a 'real' directory, like 'my documents' or a new folder or directory named 'icons'.

IF I DOUBLE CLICK ON THE WINZIP FILE IT ASKS ME HOW I WOULD LIKE TO OPEN THE DOCUMENT. IF I SAY WORDPAD I GET A BUNCH OF GOBBLEDIGOOK.

A zipfile can ONLY be opened by a utility (program) like NetZip or WinZip. So, if Windows asks you how you would like to open the file, you should say 'WinZip' (or 'NetZip', depending on the zip utility you are working with).
As soon as the zipfile is opened in one of those utilities, you will see all the other files in there. Then you can select the 'extract' command to extract all the individual files from the zipfile in WinZip.

OK, SO I NEED AN 'UNZIP' UTILITY TO EXTRACT YOUR FILES FROM THE ZIPFILE. CAN YOU SEND ME ONE OR CAN I DOWNLOAD IT FROM YOUR SITE SOMEWHERE?

If you do not have a utility like WinZip or NetZip, you can go to Winfiles or any of the other download sites like for example CNet, Tucows, DaveCentralor WinSite to download a fully working evaluation version. Please do not forget to register this version if you are planning to keep it on your harddrive.

I AM IN PANIC !

If something dramatic should happen, like a reset loop, do not perform a hard reset, but a warm reset: hold down the page up button while resetting manually (this is called a "warm reset").
This should fix the problem without data loss.

Check if all is well, if not, scroll down a bit and read on.

I LIKE IT A LOT. WHERE CAN I BUY!

You can purchase the icons at PalmGear of Handango, or just click on the 'shop' button in the navigationbar of this site and you can start buying right away

WHY DO KIDS NEED MONEY ANYWAY?

To buy more playthings and perhaps one day go visit Mr an Mrs Dewar, to feed their Gorilla's. 10% of all our sales go towards the Gorilla Haven Wildlife fund!

HOW MANY ICONS DO I GET

Depending on which set you've downloaded somewhere between a lot and almost too many. Most sets have hundreds of icons, the hi-res set over 700, the old lo-res sets close to a thousand. There are sets out there who actually contain over a 1000 icons, but if our set does not contain the icons you want, you just holler and we'll make some just for you. That's part of the deal (we're real nice kids)

I GET A LOT OF ERROR MESSAGES

So far NO general error messages or reset errors have EVER been caused by our icons. If you are getting error messages on your Palm this is probably because you are using an older version of Dbicon+ to edit your icons (go get Icon Manager by Chris Antos instead) or you are using an older version of Agendus. If you are using version 6 or below, installing icons can sometimes cause problems. Go get the update and everything will be fine.

I GET A LOT OF ERROR MESSAGES AND DON'T WANT TO UPDATE AGENDUS

Fine, suit yourself, you're one your own...

No, wait, We don't mean that. We're all in favor of great customer service (you're still there?)

Okay, what you do is backup your data, make sure you backup your icons as well (the file is called icons-IAMBIC.prc), de-install Agendus AND the icons, re-install our set of icons TOGETHER with Agendus. For some reason this seems to fix it. Good luck.

I STILL DON'T GET IT AND WANT SOME PERSONAL ASSISTANCE

Okay, just mail us with a detailed description of what went wrong, and when it happened.

Our mail address is info@<NOSPAM>twokidsinagarage.com. The <NOSPAM> label should be removed from the mail address if you actually want to reach us, but it's there so that we won't get spammed when our site's been visited by robots or spiders (Yikes!)
